The most dynamic Rotary Club in the world!
Jalalabad Rotary School

In November of 2002, Fary Moini and Steve Brown from the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club (California, U.S.A) visited Jalalabad, Afghanistan. At that time they met with the Governor of Nangarhar Province who encouraged them to build a school for returning refugee families. With this encouragement, plans for the school were drawn up by Rotarian Rick Clark and funds were raised for construction and furnishing-(partial funding provided by Donner Foundation). The school was opened in two phases--the first phase in March of 2004 and the second in January of 2005.

Although designed for much less capacity, the school presently has approximately 4,500 students-3,000 boys grades 1-12 and 1,500 girls grades 1-10. The girls will add a grade each year and soon be grades 1-12.

The school is run in three shifts. It has 20 classrooms, a large multi-purpose room, a science lab and computer lab. The water system is presently inadequate. It is served by a shallow well with impure water and insufficient storage facilities.

Additionally the facility has suffered some damage due to a recent earthquake so that some re-plastering and painting needs to be done.

Donations to support the provision of a deep well and additional water storage facilities and for repairs generally can be made on line at: https://www.rotaryonlineservices.com/district/clubweb/pay_form.cgi?club=23864
